Heavy Traffic Class 2 Licence
Drivetech Ltd provides Class 2 heavy traffic licence training for drivers wanting to step into heavier vehicles with confidence. Our training is practical, supportive, and designed to help you meet the requirements for your Class 2 licence while building the knowledge and skills needed to operate safely on the road.
A Class 2 licence allows you to drive a rigid vehicle with a gross laden weight of more than 6,000kg but less than 18,001kg.
About the Course
The Class 2 Licence course is completed over two days and includes both theory and practical training.
During the course, you will work through the Class 2 and General Road Code requirements before sitting your Class 2 Learner Licence test through AA or VTNZ when you are ready. You are not required to purchase a road code for this.
Once your learner licence is completed, you will continue with the training and assessment component of the course. This includes working through unit standard workbooks as part of the learning process, followed by the required assessments. The course combines open-book learning with closed-book assessment to ensure you understand the key knowledge needed for safe heavy vehicle operation.
On the second day, you will complete any remaining training and assessments. Once ready, your assessor will take you through the practical driving assessment.
When you have successfully completed the theory, assessment, and practical driving components, you will be issued with your Class 2 Licence Certificate. This certificate is then taken to AA or VTNZ so the Class 2 licence can be recorded on your licence.
What You'll Receive
When you complete your Class 2 training with Drivetech, you’ll receive practical, industry-focused training designed to prepare you for heavy vehicle driving. Once you have successfully completed the course requirements, you will receive your Class 2 Licence Certificate to present to AA or VTNZ for licence processing.

What You'll Need
To complete your Class 2 Licence course, you will need:
To have held your Full Class 1 Licence for at least six months
A Heavy Traffic medical certificate completed by your doctor on the required NZTA form
Steel cap boots if you have them
Practical, hands-on training designed to get you road ready.
