Heavy Traffic Class 4 Licence

Drivetech Ltd provides Class 4 heavy traffic licence training for drivers stepping into larger rigid vehicles. Our training is practical, straightforward, and designed to help you meet the requirements for your Class 4 licence while building the skills and confidence needed to operate safely and competently.

A Class 4 licence allows you to drive a rigid vehicle with a gross laden weight of more than 18,000kg.

About the Course

Before starting your Class 4 training with Drivetech, you must first obtain your Class 4 Learner Licence through AA or VTNZ. To do this, you will need to complete a DL1 form at your local AA or VTNZ branch and provide your current licence, proof of your name and address dated within the last six months, and a medical certificate if you have not provided one for your licence within the last five years. There is no theory test required at AA or VTNZ for this stage, however a fee will apply.

The Class 4 Licence course can often be completed in one day if you already have good logbook knowledge and have completed Unit Standard 24089. If not, the course is generally completed over two days.

The first day includes practical training and completion of the Class 4 workbook, followed by the assessment test. Once you are ready, the assessor will complete your practical driving assessment.

If you also need to complete the logbook unit standard, a second day is required. This includes the logbook training, workbook, and assessment before moving into the driving assessment process.

Once you have successfully completed the required assessments and practical drive, you will receive your Class 4 Licence Certificate to take to AA or VTNZ so your Class 4 licence can be added to your licence record.
