Forklift Endorsement (F) & Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH)
Drivetech Southland provides forklift training for operators who need either a Forklift Endorsement (F) for road use, a Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH) for workplace use, or both. Our training is practical, straightforward, and designed to help operators gain the knowledge and confidence needed to use forklifts safely and legally.
If you drive a forklift on the road, you must hold an F Endorsement on your driver licence. Your licence must cover both the type of vehicle and the weight of the vehicle being driven.
If you operate a forklift only within the workplace, you generally only need a Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH).
About the Course
The Forklift Endorsement (F) and Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH) can be completed separately or together, depending on what is required for your role or workplace. We also offer the option to complete Unit Standard 10852 for operators using forklift attachments.
This course is completed over one day and includes both theory and practical training. Once you have successfully completed the required training and been assessed as competent, you will receive the relevant certification.
If you are completing the F Endorsement, you will be issued with a certificate to take to AA or VTNZ so the endorsement can be added to your licence. A fee will apply through AA or VTNZ for this process.
If you are completing the Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH) only, you do not need to add anything to your licence. You will receive a full-size certificate as well as a wallet-sized certificate for your records.
Please note: The Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH) should be renewed every three years.

What You'll Need
To complete forklift training with Drivetech, you will need:
A Full Car Licence (other than a motorcycle licence) if completing the F Endorsement
No licence is required for the Forklift Operator’s Certificate (OSH), however you must be at least 15 years old
Steel cap boots if you have them
A high-visibility / day-glow jacket if you have one
Road Use vs Workplace Use
For transport law purposes, the definition of a road is broad. It includes not only streets and highways, but also any area the public has access to, such as:
Bridges
Culverts
Beaches
Riverbeds
Reserve land
Wharves
Road shoulders
If a forklift is being operated in any of these public access areas, an F Endorsement may be required.
What is considered a workplace?
A forklift used in the workplace must remain within an area that is not accessible to the public, such as behind closed gates or within a private work site. It cannot be used on public roads, streets, highways, or in any public access area without the correct licence endorsement.
