Vehicle Recovery Service (V) Endorsement Training
Drivetech Ltd provides Vehicle Recovery Service (V) Endorsement training for drivers working in vehicle towing and recovery. Our training is practical, straightforward, and designed to help operators meet the legal requirements for working in vehicle recovery services safely and professionally.
A Vehicle Recovery Service is a business that tows or recovers vehicles for hire or reward. The most common vehicles used in vehicle recovery work include tow trucks and car transporters. You are not generally considered to be operating a vehicle recovery service when towing your own vehicle, towing or carrying a motorcycle, or using a vehicle that was not designed to tow or carry vehicles as part of a recovery service.
About the Course
The Vehicle Recovery Endorsement can often be completed in one day if you already have good logbook skills and have previously completed Unit Standard 24089. Otherwise, the course is generally completed over two days.
The first day includes training, workbook completion, and the assessment test. If you also need to complete the logbook unit standard, a second day will be required. This includes further training, workbook completion, and the additional assessment.
Once you have successfully completed the required training and assessments, you will receive the relevant certificate to take to AA or VTNZ so the V Endorsement can be added to your licence.
Please note: In some cases, the Vehicle Recovery Service (V) Endorsement application can be started in advance. Contact Drivetech to find out more.

Do I Need a V Endorsement?
If you are carrying out vehicle recovery work for hire or reward, you will generally need a Vehicle Recovery Service (V) Endorsement on your licence.
If you are planning to drive a heavy vehicle as part of a vehicle recovery service, you must also hold the correct class of driver licence for that vehicle.
If you are recovering vehicles carrying Dangerous Goods, you may also require a Dangerous Goods (D) Endorsement.
If you are unsure whether a V Endorsement is required for your role, we recommend getting in touch with Drivetech or checking directly with NZ Transport Agency.
